A US destroyer fired cruise missiles on Houthi rebels early Thursday morning, attacking radar installations that the US claims were used by the rebels to target the USS Mason, another destroyer.
The missile launches from the USS Nitze mark the first time the US had directly attacked the Houthis in Yemen.
The real reason to attack the radar stations is to open the way for a major invasion.
« The direct American attack targeting Yemeni soil this morning is not acceptable, » Brigadier General Sharaf Luqman, a spokesman for Yemeni forces fighting alongside the Houthis, was quoted as saying by the Houthi-controlled Saba news agency.
« Yemen has the right to defend itself and we would deal with any development with the right steps. »
He reiterated a denial that Iran-aligned Houthi forces had carried out missile attacks on the U.S. warship
US President Barack Obama has been briefed that the operation to liberate the ISIS stronghold in Mosul in Iraq is scheduled for the second half of October.
Here’s what makes this a potential shocker: the operation allows for safe passage for 9,000 ISIS fighters on the proviso that they are transferred from Iraq to eastern Syria in order to help US plans for “regime change” there.
If this latest leak is indeed true – and time will certainly tell whether or not it is, it would constitute one of the most egregious violations of both US and international law – by the United States government and its theocratic dictator partner in Saudi Arabia.
Washington’s own anti-terror legislation expressly forbids colluding to provide logistical or material support for terrorist groups, and this latest US-Saudi would be the latest in a long list of violations… »Starting from 11:30 on October 12, the area where the Russian Embassy in Damascus is situated was under mortar fire coming from Jobar municipality controlled by extremists, » the embassy said. « One of the mines exploded in direct vicinity of the outside security post of the diplomatic mission, another – not far from the entry to the consular department, two mortar shells detonated a hundred meters off the embassy fence. Another mine fell on the roof of a local school situated near the Russian diplomatic mission, but it did not go off. As a result of the shelling, the embassy compound was covered in fragments. None of the Russian staff were injured ». Moscow has strongly condemned the attack. « We expect a due public assessment from all those who reject terrorism and in fact share the principle of immunity of diplomatic missions, » says the ministry. « We confirm that Russia’s consistent policy of uncompromising fight against terrorists in Syria will be continued ».
Reconciliation agreements were signed with representatives of 11 settlements in Syrian provinces of Hama (seven) and Latakia (four) over the last 24 hours. « The number of settlements that joined the reconciliation process has increased to 775, » the bulletin said. Talks on joining the regime of cessation of hostilities continue with field commanders of illegal armed groups in the settlement of Muaddamyet in the Damascus province and with units of armed opposition on the provinces of Homs, Aleppo and Quneitra. The number of armed groups that declared adherence to the ceasefire regime remains the same — 69, the bulletin said.
An American arms dealer, previously indicted for arming Libyan rebels, accused the US of using him as a scapegoat to protect Hillary Clinton. He says the government used his plan to ship weapons to Libya, some of which wound up in terrorists’ hands.
“I would say, 100 percent, I was victimized … to somehow discredit me, to throw me under the bus, to do whatever it took to protect their next presidential candidate,” Marc Turi told Fox News.
He says that he had specifically been targeted by the Obama administration for years. Eventually, he said, he “lost everything – my family, my friends, my business, my reputation.”
Indicted with four felony counts in 2014, Turi’s trial would have start on November 8, but the Department of Justice suddenly dropped charges against him last week.
A wheelchair-bound Swedish woman says she was gang-raped by five migrants who were then released days after their arrest, as the victim allegedly did not do enough to fight off her attackers, according to prosecutors.
The incident has sparked outrage and protest in the town of Visby, on the Baltic island of Gotland, due to the authorities’ refusal to detain or report the nationalities of the attackers.
The unnamed disabled woman, in her thirties, had asked to use a toilet at a nearby asylum centre after sharing a taxi with one of its residents on the 2nd of October.
However, after she was invited inside, the man and six of his fellow migrants attacked her, taking turns to rape the woman for several hours at the facility in Visby.
State Department asked what is difference between Yemen and Syria bombing; Awkward Moment Fellows. As we asked rhetorically yesterday, how Kerry can accuse Russia of committing war crimes in Syria with a straight face is unclear, as reports of atrocious crimes committed in Yemen continue to surface.
It seems AP’s Matt Lee questioned this hypocrisy also.
As The Independent reports, a US government spokesperson has struggled to answer questions put to him on why the US condemns Russian bombing in Syria, and supports Saudi-led bombing in Yemen, both of which have killed thousands of civilians.
« Because the civilians in Syria are GOOOOOOOD! And the civilians in Yemen are BAAAAAAAAD! » — Official White Horse Souse
Russia is ordering all of its officials to fly home any relatives living abroad amid heightened tensions over the prospect of global war, it has been claimed.
Politicians and high-ranking figures are said to have received a warning from president Vladimir Putin to bring their loved-ones home to the ‘Motherland’, according to local media.
It comes after Putin cancelled a planned visit to France amid a furious row over Moscow’s role in the Syrian conflict and just days after it emerged the Kremlin had moved nuclear-capable missiles nearer to the Polish border.
Moscow has accused Washington of sabotaging the Syria ceasefire deal, saying that the US will be responsible for any new terror attacks in Syria, as by taking no action against Al-Nusra terrorists it shows it is ready “to make a deal with the devil.”
The US has been using the terrorists as proxies all along.
For over 280 days, the Spanish people have been without an elected government and, as it seems, it is the greatest thing to have happened to the country since it’s four-decades-old democracy began. In the words of language teacher, Félix Pastor, “no government, no thieves.”
Belgium was without a Federal Government 589 days with the same result! I say we give it a try here!
Palestinian universities are fighting an uphill battle on two fronts, one being the Israeli military occupation, and more recently, the other being the Palestinian government. Although each poses two very different sets of challenges, one outcome is clear. If immediate and decisive intervention is not forthcoming, the structural damage that will set back entire generations of Palestinian students will haunt Palestine’s developmental capabilities for many years to come. That is, if the damage has not already been inflicted.
An Israeli archaeological expert has asserted that there is no relation between the Western Wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and an ancient Jewish temple, Al Jazeera reported today. This will likely serve to undermine Israeli excavations of the site.
Meir Ben-Dov, an Israeli archaeological expert who is author of many books about Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, further asserted that the Wailing Wall, the Jewish name for the Western Wall, has no sacred significance in the Jewish faith.
In related news, UNESCO members are expected to vote on a resolution that denies Jewish links to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Western Wall, known as the Buraq Wall to Muslims, agencies reported on Thursday.
Israeli newspaper Haaretz said that the resolution is expected to pass by a large majority, referring this to the inability of Israeli lobbying to persuade UNESCO members not to support the resolution.
The wall is actually part of an old Roman fort, Fort Antonia, which dates from the time of the Jewish rebellions of 66-73.
As the US officially enters the Yemen military campaign, the UK appears ready and willing to precipiate a catalytic event from which there is no going back. With relations between Russia and the West at post-Cold War lows and deteriorating fast, Royal Air Force (RAF) pilots have been given the go-ahead to shoot down Russian military jets when flying missions over Syria and Iraq, if they are endangered by them. The development comes with warnings that the UK and Russia are now « one step closer » to being at war, according to the Sunday Times.
« On October 12, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Russia’s Ambassador to Lithuania Alexander Udaltsov. He was given a diplomatic note expressing concern over the Russian Navy’s activities… in Lithuania’s exclusive economic zone in the Baltic Sea, » the statement says. According to the ministry, « on October 10, Russia’s warships ordered some civilian vessels in Lithuania’s exclusive economic zone to change their course. » As the ministry noted, Lithuania’s concern over the « deployment of the Iskander missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads, to the Kaliningrad region » and the « Russian planes’ flights over the Baltic Sea », was also conveyed to Udaltsov
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has decreed to terminate an agreement between the Russian and Ukrainian governments on cooperation in the operation of the main oil product pipelines, says a report posted on the Cabinet’s website on Thursday.
